WATER!

With no rain forecast for the next 10 days, and a newly planted dogwood, 13 Black eyed Susan plugs as well as 10 coreopsis plugs, fear of losing the new plants was real. Sue brought gallons of water down, and Dave pulled buckets of water out of the stream. Both were a lot of work. We talked about pumps. Would solar work? Mickey suggested powering the unit via jump cables and car battery.

Then… Dave thought like a farmer.

Sue wrote to the group: Thanks to Dave, we have a hookup to the stream using good old gravity power. I bought a few hoses and Dave had a funnel. He worked some magic up in the hinterlands of the property and made the stream run through the hose.

The gravity hose works just fine, notes Mickey. A little slow, yet perfect for leaving it next to each plant for a few minutes and weeding at the same time.

Permaculture principle: Use small and slow solutions.
