Nests in the Knotweed

"Knotweed is capable of completely smothering out all other plant life, launching a domino effect that leads to other native species, like insects and birds, to leave the area as well."

That same website calls knotweed The Devil's Bamboo and Demon Weed!  Why is knotweed not such a problem in Japan? "In Japan, more than 180 indigenous species feed on the plant and help keep it in check."

While we were cutting down the knotweed, we found two birds nests. Urban nests, with pieces of plastic woven into them.

We felt bad -what if the birds were still living there? But ... on the other hand ... the knotweed would eventually make the area inhabitable.

And -we were happy to welcome Astrid and Ken to work with us!
